Maulbronn Monastery

Maulbronn Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in the center of Maulbronn in the Enzkreis district of Baden-Württemberg. The small town of Maulbronn with its monastery is located on the south-western edge of the Stromberg, which rises in the Kraichgau region to the south of the Odenwald and north of the Black Forest. The nearest major city is Pforzheim. Maulbronn is considered to be the best-preserved medieval monastery complex north of the Alps. All styles and stages of development from Romanesque to late Gothic are represented here.

Within the complex, which is enclosed by a wall, there are several restaurants, the police station, Maulbronn town hall and other administrative offices. The monastery buildings also house a Protestant grammar school with boarding school.

Maulbronn Monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 1993.
